Although no word is available yet on the release of Vista’s SP1, Microsoft has released some critical patches that will resolve a few of the annoyances that some of us have seen for the last 9.5 months.

These patches will eventually be pushed out through Windows Update for those of you who do not actively go out and grab them first. For me, the biggest issue addressed was that of copying/moving large files via Explorer.

Well, there has been some discussion of this around the net (but not as much as I would have thought) ..
Recently (after 8 months of very satisified Vista experiences), I went to initiate a manual “Disc Cleanup” from the standard “Drive”->”Properties” menu. Much to my horror, after selecting to run a standard “Disc Cleanup”, Vista was good enough to delete the entire contents of my Desktop in addition to every other file in my “C:\Users\John” folder. Despite being heavily protected by backups, this still caused a nightmare as my Vista installation refused to restart after a reboot. Even Vista’s repair options on the install DVD did not rectify the situation. I have yet to see any formal recognition of this by Microsoft.
